I’m a Big Kid Now- How to Rediscover Life’s Simplest Truths

Remember when you were a kid and you felt you could conquer the world! I mean there was nothing you couldn’t do! My three year old son is convinced he is Iron Man, he says mom “I am IRON MAN,” in a voice so big I’m almost even convinced.  It’s amazing to me how much we lose through out life, here are 10 important things you learned as a kid and should consider rediscovering in your adulthood!

1. Think BIG -What do you want to be when you grow up? I bet you had a great answer to that question as a child. Do you still? What exciting things do you want to happen in the next 5 years? 10 years? Set big goals and take steps every day until you are there!

2. Don’t Be Afraid of Adventure – Do you remember how quickly a Band-Aid® could fix anything? Be bold! Try new things! What dream has fear stopped you from achieving? Don’t worry about getting a cut or two along the way and go for it!

3. Learn From Mistakes – It’s okay to make mistakes. That is an age-old wisdom we teach our children, right? Successful people are able to make them, accept them and learn from them. Do you? Arm yourself with what you learned and tread forward!

4. Have a Bedtime – As a child you needed rest in order to be healthy, to thrive physically, and quite honestly, so you were not terribly cranky! How are you any different now? Turn off the television and get 7-8 hours of rest each night.

5. Eat Your Vegetables – You are never too old to make your mother proud! Vegetables are loaded with the vitamins, minerals and antioxidants you need to maintain health and perform at your peak! Brighten up your dinner plate with vegetables of all different colors! Eating these nutritious foods will fuel your body and power your mind!

6. Play Hard – Children crave physical activity because it is fun! Jump roping, baseball games, playgrounds, you name it! Exercise is a fantastic way to beat stress and increase well being. Get at least 30 minutes 3 to 4 times per week. Make exercise a priority and don’t forget to have fun!

7. Be Silly - Being serious all the time is very boring. Are you boring? Never forget to laugh at yourself and at life. Do a funny dance for a child. Poke fun at yourself on a bad day. Learn some great jokes. Adding a little silly makes the journey so much better!

8. Believe in Happy Endings -“Once upon a time” used to always be followed by “happily ever after”. The power of positive thinking is undeniable. What is the most fantastic outcome you can visualize for your life? Create your own story and keep your focus on happily ever after!

9. Keep Learning - Remember the rush when you learned to ride your bike? That kind of rush is worth finding again. Always seek out new things to learn. Become a great cook. Learn French. Get certified in CPR. It doesn’t matter what you choose; just keep learning! Adding knowledge and experience feels just as spectacular as an adult.

10. Never Give Up – How many times does a child fall when learning to walk? More importantly, how many times do they get back up? You were once that child. When you fall, never forget to get back up and keep walking!

Make it a GREEEEAT Day!
