Snakes in the Media- The story behind author Reuben Armstrong

Reuben Armstrong has written a controversial new book entitled: Snakes in the Pulpit. This book, apparently spills out the exposure of the megachurch and the leaders of these churches alike. Mr. Armstrong’s argument is that many preachers of the gospel, namely the megachurch, are simply profiting from the masses of people who are now choosing to become apart of the church and willfully surrendering to the call of God. I would dare say that Mr. Armstrong (whose book, I might add is priced at $22.95) is right. You see the bible speaks clearly about wealth of the righteous in the last days, about the masses of people who will come to God and about leaders, pastors, prophets, and preachers who God will pour out his spirit upon in order that they may do the work of the Lord.
While Mr. Armstrong seemingly creates a valid argument, we must always check the validity of the source. Mr. Armstrong quotes the bible scripture, “Beware of false prophets, They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.” Matthew 7:15. here in lies the basis for his claim, he states that the megachurch pastors are “pimping the church” and creating wealth on the basis of being false prophets. While this scripture is true and is a reference from the word, Mr. Armstrong failed to include the entire context which is pertinent to his argument. In this same chapter of the bible, actually the following scripture it states, “You will know them by their fruit. For every good tree bears good fruit, and every bad tree bears bad fruit.” Matthew 7:16. Therefore a good tree cannot bear bad fruit and vice versa. I would dare say that Mr. Armstrong excluded this scripture purposefully, WHY??? because where is his fruit? Has he fed the poor, prayed for the nations, built wells in Africa, instructed the youth, counseled the lost, held funerals for the deceased, clothed the needy, provided housing for the homeless? In his defense, his website did state that he had a scholarship program that was “coming soon.
Many of the leaders that he has attacked are some of America’s most prominent pastors, of course it would behoove Mr. Armstrong to speak ill of those individuals because that is the way to ride the coattails of controversy in our world. However, the bible is clear: Timothy 6:3-5 states,

3 If anyone teaches false doctrines and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, 4 he is conceited and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions 5 and constant friction between men of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.

Prior to writing and running a radio show, Mr. Armstrong was a pizza delivery man, talk about pulling yourself up through the ranks. All, I can say is a self-published book priced at $22.95 multiplied by even 10,000 readers equals a substantial amount of money $229,500 to be exact, now my question becomes Who’s Pimpin’ the church Now?

  1. Nick Johnson says:

“My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,’ says the Lord.
‘For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways,
And My thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8-9

Back in the day there was a guy by the name of Curtis Jackson that seemingly came out of nowhere with a song that blasted every hip hop star in the game that had made a name for his or herself. Unprovoked he layed into everyone from all angles. Needless to say he immediately grabbed everyone’s attention including fans, artist, and record labels. Before long everyone was asking who is this guy? Where did he come from? What is he all about and why is he lashing out at all these well know Artist. As a new artist this is exactly what you want to do in regards to marketing and publicity. Well here we are just a few years later and if are even slightly a fan or listener to rap or hip hop, you know who Curtis “Fiddy cents” Jackson is. Mission accomplished. This is the worlds way of doing things. I think that Mr. Armstrong may have been attempting somewhat the same approach failed to realize that the worlds way of doing things are null and void when it come to suceeding in the Kingdom. I’m afraid that what Mr. Armstrong has done is open himself up to be punished for the very same sins that he has accused the priest of doing. I agree with you Tiffany. If this wasn’t about how much money he could make, why not just pray mercy on those ministers. Is not God, God? Is He not omnicient, omnipotent and omnipresent? Will any unconfessed sin go unpunished? Mr. Armstrong…I will pray for you.
