Loving the Lost

A father has lost his son, he died overseas fighting for our country. He was a solider, a man of valor and courage who gave his life for our freedom. His father attended his son’s funeral in hopes that he could bury his pain, anguish, and anxiety when he laid him to rest. Instead, he was met with hatred and dishonor of the son who had given his life for the liberties we enjoy in our country. A fundamentalist church who protests at military funerals rallied outside the funeral home. The church protests at the funerals of military personnel killed in battle claiming the Iraq war is America’s punishment for embracing homosexuality. They robbed this father of the opportunity to lay his son to rest in peace, but more than that they divided the church’s acclamation of love to a demonstration of hate. I have been saddened by the number of believers that express hate in their hearts. Our world is comprised of a diverse population, and as believers we are instructed to have compassion on those who are lost in sin. We are to hate the sin and not the sinner. It is important that we understand that when we extend LOVE, then and only then, will the world begin to take notice. We have to be different, set apart, THE SALT OF THE EARTH. We cannot explain what we don’t understand, to LOVE is to recognize the power that goes beyond our faults and reaches to our needs. Our God extends himself in that way to us each and every day. Challenge yourself to love beyond your judgment. I am so glad the father did that for me…Remember God is Love…Make it a great day!
